Napa ( NAP-ə) is the largest city in and the county seat of Napa County, California. It is the principal city of the Napa County Metropolitan Statistical Area, with a population of 78,130 as of the 2019 United States census estimate. It is the second-largest city in California's Wine Country, after Santa Rosa. Napa was incorporated as a city in 1872.




The city at the 2010 census had a population of 76,078. In 2017 the estimated population was 79,932.
Napa is about 25 miles (40 km) north of San Francisco on U.S. Route 101 in the Napa Valley, which is a major wine-growing region; it has a more inland climate than typical of California's coast: its average July temperature is 71 °F (22 °C), and daily mean temperatures range from 47 to 57 °F (8 to 14 °C).
