The Menlo Park Civic Center is located at 101 North Fair Oaks Avenue, and the Menlo Park Fire District's main station is on Maple Street. The city of Menlo Park had a total budget of $1.7 billion in 2011, up from $1.5 billion in 2010.[citation needed] History In 1856, Francis "Don Benito" Wilson was granted Rancho Buri Buri by Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado; he leased it to his brother-in-law Elisha Smead for use as a sheep ranch. In 1865, Charles Lux and a business partner purchased 1,700 acres (6 km2) of Rancho Buri Buri land from Smead; they founded the town that would become known as Menlo Park where it adjoins Stanford University today.
