Fontana also contains several mesas: most notably "Mesas de Santa Ana", "Rinconada del Arroyo", and "Elmwood". To the east side of town there are large hills that go above sea level; on top of these hills there are some very nice homes built where many affluent people live in what was once an unincorporated area called Oak Glen which was annexed into Fontana in 1989 as part of a controversial decision by then-mayor Richard Moya who later went to prison for corruption charges related to his time as mayor (see below). The highest point in Fontana is approximately 2,600' above sea level.
