Antalya was the host city for the 2015 G-20 summit and the EXPO 2016. The city was founded as "Attaleia" (Ancient Greek: Ἀττάλεια) by Attalos II, King of Pergamon, in 150 BC. This name, still in use in English along with Antalya itself despite its Turkish pronunciation ("Antalya"), was later evolved into "Antiocheia" () or "Antiochia ad Sarum". The historical figure of this name is Antiochus I Soter who expanded his kingdom over Anatolia and then conquered Syria and Phoenicia; he established Seleucid rule over Babylon. There are several legends surrounding how Attaleia came to be named after Antiochos' wife: After a period under Persian rule (satrapy Mysian Kingdom), it passed to Alexander's successors.
