It is served by the Seoul Subway Line 1, Line 4 and Line 6. Yongsan District is one of the most historical areas in Seoul. The district was formed in 1914 from portions of Hyehwa-dong (혜화동) and Eunpyeong County (은평군). It underwent several changes to its boundaries before it assumed its current form in 1988 with a merger with parts of Seodaemun District on the west side of Han River, which had been part of Gwanak District until 1981. In 1993 Yongsan District was host to the Korean Grand Prix for Formula One racing at Korea International Circuit. Today it remains home to Kia Motors' corporate headquarters as well as numerous auto showrooms for luxury brands such as BMW, Audi & Mercedes Benz among others. The area surrounding Namsan has also developed into a popular tourist attraction offering some 50 restaurants specializing in traditional Korean cuisine.
