Belgrade is the seat of power in Serbia, and as such it is home to a large number of ministries, governmental institutions and state companies. The central part of Belgrade has a total population (census 2011) of 1.23 million citizens within its administrative limits (the urban area stretches beyond the boundaries). According to official results from Census 2002, there are 870,361 inhabitants in Belgrade municipality or 54% out of 1594 municipalities in Serbia; excluding suburbs outside city limits but inside metropolitan area.Belgradians are known as "belgradski ljudi" ("people from Belgrade") or colloquially "beograđani" ("citizens"). In terms like "Beogradčanin", which would mean 'person who comes from Belgrade', one should strictly say that he/she comes 'from' not 'in' because this term never refers to only one city but two – Novi Sad and Pančevo for example.
