Kraków is classified as a global city with the ranking of "Alpha −" in the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. In 2017, Kraków was officially approved as a UNESCO City of Literature. It is also one of the top 100 most liveable cities in the world according to lifestyle magazine Monocle. The number of universities in Kraków exceeds 150, with more than 70,000 students enrolled (making it one of Europe's most popular student cities). The name "Kraków" comes from ancient Slavic word "krako", meaning an eagle (see also Krzyżacy for details).
