It was estimated that 1,200 people per square kilometer lived there in 2015.Manila's location on Manila Bay makes it vulnerable to floods and typhoons but also provides some protection against them due to its deep natural harbor—the only natural harbor close enough for use as entry point for large ships at any time except during El Niño years when Sulu Sea becomes too shallow even for small boats (see List below).
