It is one of the major cities of Metro Manila and part of the Greater Manila Area. Bacoor is known as "The Gateway to Cavite" because it serves as a gateway to those going north or south in the province, located on its northern shores. It has become an economic hub for both lowland and highland residents since it lies at a crossroad between Metro Manila, Laguna de Bay area (including southern Tagaytay), Kawit/Cabuyao areas in Cavite Province, Noveleta/Rosario area in Cavite Province and Silang/General Trias areas in nearby province of Batangas. Bacoor was founded by Don Juan Geronimo Mariano on June 11, 1856 under Act No. 137 during the Spanish colonial period.[5] The town's original name was Bagumbayan after bagumbayan ("new town") which refers to what Bacoor used to be before becoming a city: barrio (barangay) with no definite boundaries that time.
