Zwolle (Dutch: [ˈzʋɔlə] (listen)) is a city and municipality in the Northeastern Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Overijssel. Zwolle is located on the border with Gelderland, which follows the river IJssel, not far from Flevoland to the northwest and Drenthe to the northeast. With a population of 130,173 as of 1 July 2021, it is the second-largest municipality in Overijssel after Enschede.


Zwolle is the oldest city in the province. The municipality comprises of which is water and had a population of 218,082 in 2017. It is part of the metropolitan area with a combined 736,500 inhabitants (2007).
