The municipality of Jiquilpan is located in the south-central part of Michoacán, about 130 km from Morelia. It has an area of 1,856.6 km² and borders the municipalities of Tuzantla to the north; Ziracuaretiro to the east; Lázaro Cárdenas and Coahuayana to the south; Coalcoman (Michoacán) and Paracho (Michoacan) to west. The name "Jiquilpan" comes from Nahuatl meaning "place where there are tint plants." The climate is temperate with rains in summer, autumn being dry season with mild temperatures between 18°C - 28°C . In winter it can get cold at night reaching 0 °C but during day time temperature remains constant around 20 °C .
