About Grimaldi

Grimaldi is located in the middle of a plain, surrounded by mountains. The town was founded in the Middle Ages and has been destroyed several times due to earthquakes. It was rebuilt each time and today it is one of Calabria's most important towns. The main street crosses through the old quarter which consists of small stone houses with arches and narrow streets that are typical for this part of Italy (see picture). The economy is mainly based on agriculture, especially wine production (the area around Grimaldi produces some excellent wines), but also on handicrafts such as carpentry or basket making.
