History [ edit ] The province of Pescara is located in the central-western part of Abruzzo, bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east and north-east. The provincial capital is Pescara, which has a population of 119,483 inhabitants.[1] It borders Teramo to the north; Chieti to the west; Vasto and L'Aquila (both in Abruzzo) on its south side. To its east lies coast along with a short border with Lazio before it reaches open sea towards Foggia.[2] The provincial economy relies heavily on tourism as well as agriculture (wine grapes are particularly popular). There are also several hydroelectric power plants within this region. Its coastline from San Salvo up until Pesaro hosts numerous beaches that attract tourists during summer months due to their proximity to Rome and Milan.
