The city was the focus of the 1967 Six-Day War, during which Israel captured East Jerusalem and has since then extended its jurisdiction and administrative borders there. In 1980, Jerusalem's status as the "undivided capital" of Israel was internationally recognized. The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has in recent years sought to change that status by gaining recognition for East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital from various bodies including United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), but these efforts have not been successful. As a result of this conflict over sovereignty between Israel on one hand versus Jordan/Palestine on other hand, many governments have chosen to relocate their embassies from Tel Aviv to other cities such as Ramat Gan or even back again all together like Washington D.C.
