About Jakarta

Jakarta is listed as the most expensive city for expatriates in Southeast Asia, and ranked fourth globally after Tokyo, Zurich and Singapore. The Japanese government has invested more than 1 trillion yen (US$8.1 billion) into the city's infrastructure under a strategic partnership with Indonesia to improve public transportation over ten years through projects such as Jakarta Metro Rail, Monorail Jakarta, LRT Line 2 & 3 expansion project of existing rail transit lines in Greater Jakarta area; construction of Trans-Java toll road; development of new ports at Merak on Java island and Tanjung Priok on North coast Banten province near the capital region; extension to Cilincing International Airport (CII), an airport south from downtown that serves both domestic flights within Indonesia plus international flights to neighboring countries like Malaysia or Singapore.
