About Siliguri

The city is well-connected with the rest of India by air, rail and road. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway connects Siliguri to the hilly regions of North Bengal. It also has an international airport that serves domestic and international destinations across Asia, Europe and North America.Siliguri is a major centre for education in West Bengal as it has numerous colleges affiliated with different universities in India such as University of Calcutta (Kolkata), Jadavpur University (Kolkata) etc., apart from schools like St Joseph's College, St Xavier's Collegiate School etc.. Apart from this there are many reputed institutions which provide professional courses like Indian Institute Of Foreign Trade(IIFT), IIM Calcutta(Indian Institute Of Management).The economy consists mainly of small businesses engaged in trade or tourism related activities; however agriculture remains its most important economic sector.[5] The city houses several large tea plantations where Assam type teas are grown under tropical conditions on terraced fields overlooking the plains below.
