Geography of Purulia Purulia district is bounded by the districts of Bankura and Paschim Medinipur in the north, West Singhbhum and Saraikela Kharsawan (both part of Jharkhand) in the east, Bokaro district (partly), Chatra District(partly)and Latehar District(partly)of Jharkhand state in south. Main Rivers : Kangsabati River flows through this region which is one among its tributaries that originates from Mayurbhanj State Odisha . This river passes through Balarampur town , Adra town , Raghunathpur town before merging into Damodar River at Maithon Dam near Durgapur city .
