The mango orchards produce a variety of mangoes, especially the Fazli (special) variety. The silk industry is one of the main sources of income for Malda. There are many mulberry plantations in and around the city; this is also an important source for raw silk production. Rice, jute and oilseeds are other major crops that thrive here. In addition to these agricultural products, Malda produces excellent quality timber from its vast forests spread over 30% area of its total landmass.[1] Maldah district has an area of 3304 km² with a population density 633 persons per km² as per 2011 census report . It ranks 7th in terms of population among districts in West Bengal state after Kolkata Municipal Corporation , Howrah Municipal Corporation , North 24 Parganas District , South 24 Parganas District & Cooch Behar District .It lies 347km north-east from State capital Kolkata .
