Kalyani is located at . It has an average elevation of 14 metres (46 feet). The city lies on the eastern bank of Hooghly River, in the Ganges Delta. Kalyani is a part of the Gangetic West Bengal region. The climate here is tropical — like much of India, with monsoons and humid conditions prevailing for most parts of the year. Summers are hot and humid; temperatures rise to around 40 degree Celsius between April–June then there are monsoon rains which bring down temperatures considerably but also cause flooding in low-lying areas. Winter starts in late November or early December when minimum temperatures hover around 20 degrees Celsius for a few weeks before rising to about 30 degrees Celsius from January through March/April as summer approaches again; however, it rarely crosses 35 degree Celsius during this period due to heavy cloud cover & humidity levels dropping significantly after sunset (even though it may feel very warm due to high humidity levels).
