The Hindi-language nationalist newspaper, Aj, was first published in 1920. Varanasi district is a district of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. Varanasi city is the headquarters of this district and also its largest city. The District has an area of 4,071 km² with population density as 1125 persons per km² (as per Census 2011). It borders Azamgarh to the south east and Jaunpur to the south west; Ghazipur lies to its north west across river Ganges while Mau lies on its north east border with Nepal at Gorakhpur forming Indo-Nepal border here along Indo-Gangetic plains region which covers most part of eastern Uttar Pradesh including Varanasi division consisting five districts viz., Deoria , Kushinagar , Maharajganj , Sant Kabir Nagar & Siddharthnagar . The other major cities are Mirzapur (the second largest) and Jaunpur .The administrative headquarter is located at Varanasi but it consists two divisions viz.
