The city is divided into sectors and sub-sectors. There are a total of 16 sectors, with the first sector being Sector 1. Each sector has its own commercial area along with residential areas, parks and schools within it. The city also has an inter-sector bus terminus that connects all the major parts of Greater Noida. History [ edit ] Greater Noida was created as part of a national urbanisation policy in 1972 by Indira Gandhi's government to accommodate people migrating from rural areas to metropolitan cities like Delhi for better living conditions. It was planned as an extension to Gautam Buddha Nagar district's main town Dadri (which had been named after Lord Buddha) which lies on its northern side at around 10 km distance from it, while Ghaziabad lies on its southern side at around 15 km away from it.
