About Azamgarh
Azamgarh is an ancient city. It was the capital of Northern Kosala during 6th and 7th centuries, prior to that it was a part of Avadh region. The name "Azamgarh" literally means the residence or abode ("Garh") of Azam (a brave man). The history says that when Alauddin Khalji invaded this area he found no one in this town to resist him except a local chieftain named Azam Khan hence he called it as "Azm Garh".
