The state is home to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, India's second-largest political party by representation in the Lok Sabha. The name "Telangana" means "the region beyond the boundaries of trees". It was a place where people from various parts of what is now Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka settled during ancient times. According to historian P V Narasimha Rao, who has been credited with discovering many inscriptions related to Telugu history, it was probably derived from two words: telu (salt) and anga (region). A Sanskrit inscription dated 1093 A.D., available at Jogulamba Gadwal district mentions that a certain Chola king invaded Anantapuram and conquered Kondavidu which belonged to Karunakara Tondaiman I; this might have led some historians like Dr M V S Raghavaiah Yadavalli etc.
