History [ edit ] Adilabad was formerly known as Edlabad during the Nizam rule. The name of this historic city is derived from its earlier name "Edlapadu". It was also called 'Etla Padu' in ancient days. This town served as a military station for Hyderabad rulers and it had many palaces, gardens and lakes around it.[2] Adilbadi is located on National Highway 163 (India) which connects Hyderabad to Kolkata via Jagdalpur, Raipur, Bilaspur etc., NH-7 (India) which connects Mumbai to Kanyakumari passes through Adilabd near Asifnagar village. A new four lane highway connecting Bengaluru - Chennai via Vijayawada - Rajahmundry will pass near by adibatla mandal headquarters at Chintapalle bypassing the city of adilabd with an estimated cost of Rs 1 lakh crore project completion date 2022[3][4] .
