The town is the headquarters of a Tahsildar division and also it has a Sub-Registrar Office. The town has been divided into 25 wards for administrative convenience. The Town Panchayat office is situated in the heart of Dharapuram, which was built during British period as an Administrative Building (Town Hall). It was used as such up to 1974 after which it became defunct due to lack of maintenance and repair works. In 2005, Government decided to renovate this building at an estimated cost Rs 1 crore under JnNURM scheme with additional funds from local bodies department towards its renovation work started in 2006 . The renovated building will be used for various public purposes like meetings, seminars etc., apart from being a Town Panchayat Office complex.. Dharapuram assembly constituency (SC)is part of Erode(Lok Sabha constituency).
