Kota is located in the southeast of Rajasthan, on the banks of Chambal River. It has an average elevation of . The city is surrounded by hills on all three sides and there are four rivers flowing through it: Parvati river, Kali Sindh, Salawati River and Chambal. Kota's geographical area covers 19 km (7 sq mi). The climate in Kota features a semi-arid climate with high variation between summer and winter temperatures. Summers start in late March and can be extremely hot with temperatures reaching up to 48 °C (118 °F) but humidity remains low while winters are cold due to its location near the Himalayas where temperature can drop below 0 °C (32 °F).
