About Ludhiana

Ludhiana is the largest city of Punjab and second largest in Northern India. It has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission. Ludhiana is famous for its food, especially Balle Balle kebab, pakoras from Ramdevra (a town near Ludhiana), Chole Kulche and Gajar ka halwa (carrot cake). The main sports played in Ludhiania are cricket, football and hockey; it also has facilities for tennis courts & badminton courts. The etymology of "Ludhan" or "Lodhan", which later came to be known as Lodhi after merging with another clan called 'Bhatti' during 10th century AD., was derived from Sanskrit word 'lodha', meaning an arrow maker or someone who makes arrows out of bamboo sticks used by hunters at that time..
