Shillong is a hill station located in the Eastern Himalayas at an average elevation of 1,868 m (6,128 ft). Shillong has a humid subtropical climate with cool winters and warm summers. The highest temperature recorded was 34.3 °C (93.7 °F) on 22 May 2005 while the lowest temperature recorded was −4.0 °C (24.8 °F) on 7 January 1970 .
