Karad is located at . It has an average elevation of 642 metres (2,106 feet). The city lies on the banks of Krishna and Koyna rivers. Karad is situated in a valley between two mountain ranges - Sahyadri to the west and Bhor Ghat to the east. The town has a tropical climate with hot summers from mid-March to mid-June, monsoon season from late June till October and mild winters during rest of months. Temperatures remain moderate throughout summer because it receives both western as well as eastern winds unlike other parts in Maharashtra which receive only one type or another due to its location near coast line but away from sea shore making it more inland than coastal area.. The population consists mainly of people belonging mostly Maratha caste groups such as Chavan's(Yashwantrao Chavan was born here), Patil's , Desai's etc., along with substantial numbers belonging Gujarati community who migrated here during British rule for business purpose .
