Bhusawal is the largest city in Jalgaon district. Bhusawal is situated on the bank of Tapti River and has an average elevation of 467 meters (1541 feet). Bhusaval railway station, a major junction on Mumbai-Howrah main line, lies in this city. The town was established by Bhosle Maharajas as they were ruling this region during British rule. The name "Bhosala" comes from their family name "Bhoj". It was also ruled by Maratha empire under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and later it came under Peshwas rule till 1818 when it became part of British India after defeat at Third Anglo-Maratha War.
