Rewa is a city in north-eastern part of Madhya Pradesh state in India. It is the administrative center of Rewa District and Rewa Division. The city lies about 420 kilometres (261 mi) northeast of the state capital Bhopal and  230 kilometres (143 mi) north of the city of Jabalpur. The maximum length of Rewa district is 125 km from east to west and the length of Rewa from north to south is 96 km. This area is surrounded by Kenmore hills in the south direction and Vindhyachal ranges pass through the middle of the district.  




The city is located on the banks of river Parbati. The name Rewa has been derived from Ravi, which means a place where water flows continuously. It is also said that this place was named after King Rewat who ruled here in ancient times and whose capital was Mahoba (Madhya Pradesh).
Rewa district consists of 6 tehsils: Bina, Chitrangi, Garoth , Jaitpur , Khilchipur and Paterwa . There are 5 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in this district: Chitrangi (ST), Garoth(ST), Jaitpur(SC), Khilchipur(SC) & Paterwa . All of these are part of Tikamgarh Lok Sabha constituency.
