Ratlam is the largest city of Ratlam district, and the second-largest city in Madhya Pradesh after Indore. It was a princely state ruled by Rajputs of Jhala dynasty. The town had a population of 1,737,844 at the 2011 census.[2] History [ edit ] The history dates back to 12th century when it was founded by King Ratan Singh Jhala who ruled from his capital at Mandsaur (Mandu). He built several temples in honour of Lord Vishnu including Rangji Temple which is now situated on top of hill near Kothari Gate area. After him his son Anandapal succeeded him and he constructed many buildings such as Anand Mahal (palace), Chhatris etc.
