Steven Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to Abdulfattah Jandali (1932–2016) and Joanne Carole Schieble (b. 1932). His biological father, a Syrian Muslim immigrant from Homs who became a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later dean of the University of Wisconsin Graduate School for International Studies, had initially left his wife before Steve's birth. He was not aware that he had a son until 16 years later when he met Steven by chance at Reed College in Portland during one of his lectures. The two became acquainted; they stayed in touch over the years despite having different ideological beliefs as well as Jobs being unaware that Jandali was still married to another woman until shortly before his death when it came out publicly after he remarried around 2000 or so according to an interview with "The Atlantic".
