In June 2011, the Supreme Court of India upheld the lower court's decision. In February 2014, seven former employees were sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of about $2,000 each for their role in the disaster. The Bhopal Medical Appeal was launched by Dr Rachna Dhingra and Dr Derek Lickorish on 28 September 1985 as a response to this tragedy. The Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant was located near Bhopal railway station between Hamidia Road and Old Bypass roads in an industrial area called "B-Zone".
