Kochi is located at . It has an average elevation of above mean sea level. The city lies on the southwest coast of India, in a region that enjoys the best climate in India. As Kochi is located near the equator, there is little seasonal variation in its temperature which remains hot and humid throughout the year with no winter or summer seasons. Its proximity to mountains renders it vulnerable to gales from April through November each year; however these winds are beneficial for Kochi's port as they blow away sand and mud from ships' hulls while berthing or docking, thus preventing ship-worms (a major cause of ship damage) from infesting them during their stay within Kochi harbour limits.
