About Kannur

The word Kannur may be derived from Kanathur, an ancient village. Another theory is that the name originates from the Malayalam words kannan (lord) and ur (place), meaning "Land of Lord Krishna". The town's old name was Cannanore, which still survives in its Tamil version as Kannankovil. Kerala is a state on the southwestern tip of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956 following passage of the States Reorganisation Act by Parliament, which also resulted in transfer of Dravidian-speaking regions - Travancore and Cochin - to form a new state along with Malabar district from Madras State under Article 1(2)(a) & Part A states category respectively . Kerala has 3 Lok Sabha seats for Indian general elections since independence till date . In 2014 election all three parliamentary constituencies were won by Left Democratic Front candidates , while one seat each went to Bharatiya Janata Party , Communist Party Of India (Marxist) & Indian National Congress respectively .
