Bagalkot district is located in the northern part of Karnataka. It borders Belgaum, Gadag and Bijapur districts to the north, Dharwad district to the east, Uttara Kannada and Haveri districts to south-east. Bagalkot city is situated on National Highway 4 (NH4) between Bangalore and Hyderabad. The river Ghataprabha flows through this region which makes it fertile for agriculture; hence most of its people are farmers or engaged in related activities like dairy farming etc., but now a days many people have migrated towards cities for better opportunities as well as education facilities available there . The town was founded by King Ballala II (1173–1198 CE), who ruled parts of present-day Maharashtra during his reign from 1173 CE – 1198 CE.[1] He named it after his son "Ballal" who built a fort here.
