It is the 3rd largest city of Jharkhand. Jamshedpur is also known as Steel City, Tata's Iron City and The Industrial Capital of Eastern India. The name "Tatanagar" was changed to "Jamshedpur" in December 1961 by the government of Bihar state after it became a part of newly formed Bihar on 1 November 1956. It was named after its founder Sir Dorabji Tata (1859–1932). The Tatas who had migrated from Navsari district Gujarat to Bombay in 1868, started their steel business at Sakchi near Jamshedpur in 1887 with an initial capital investment by Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (1849–1906) and his brother Wad Over time they expanded operations across India including other major cities like Kolkata Mumbai , Delhi Chennai , Hyderabad etc., which are now called TATA Group .
