Sonipat is located at . It has an average elevation of 213 metres (699 feet). The city lies on the southern banks of the Yamuna River. The river flows along its eastern boundary, separating it from Bahadurgarh and Badli in Delhi district. To its south lie Panipat and Karnal districts, to its west are Rohtak and Jind districts while to north lies Bhiwani district. India census, Sonipat had a population of 1,079,843 with 589 females for every 1000 males living in urban area making it one of the most populated cities in Haryana after Gurgaon & Faridabad as well as 7th largest city by population after Gurugram(Gurugram), Faridabad ,Delhi NCR region followed by Hisar & Bhiwani Cities respectively .
