The city is divided into sectors A, B, C and D. The sector headquarters are known as "Mini Secretariat". Sector A has the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), which is also known as District Administration Office (DAO). The Panchkula district consists of two sub-divisions: Zirakpur and Panchkula. The district has three tehsils: Ambala Cantonment, Mohali & Zirakpur. There are four blocks in this district: Ambala Cantt., Mohali, Kalanaur & Zirakpur with a total of 131 villages under these blocks.[2] Panchkula was planned by Chandigarh architect Le Corbusier along with Pierre Jeanneret . It was developed to accommodate employees from industries located in neighboring cities like Kurukshetra , Panipat etc..[3] In 1950s it became home for thousands who migrated here from East Punjab during partition.
