It is a major industrial hub of Haryana and has many large-scale industries. It is also the home to one of India's largest thermal power plants, NTPC Dadri. Bahadurgarh was founded in 1733 by Jai Singh II, the Raja (ruler) of Amber (later Jaipur). He named it after his grandfather Bahadur Shah I, who had led several campaigns into northern India from his capital at Delhi during the reigns of Aurangzeb and Muhammad Shah. The city was established as an outpost on a trade route between Delhi and Sirsa with protection from rebeccas or bandits that were active in this area until 1809 when they were finally subdued under Ranjit Singh's Sikh Empire rule over Punjab region.. In 1763 Pratap Singh Kahluria became its ruler followed by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1803 who made it part of Bharatpur State ruled by him till independence . After Independence ,it came under Indian Territory .
