Geography of Purnia Purnia is located at 25.07°N 87.54°E / 25.07; 87.54 in the Kosi-Seemanchal region, which lies on the northern part of Bihar state and eastern part of Nepal border with India, known as North Bihar or Purvanchal (eastern side). It has an average elevation of 42 meters (138 feet) above sea level.[2] The city is situated on the banks of river Koshi and its tributary Punpun River flows through it from east to west direction dividing it into two parts: Old Town & New Town .The old town area was developed by British Government during colonial period while new town area was developed by Indian government after independence in 1947 AD .
