Nandikotkur (or "Nandigotra") was ruled by King Bhumimitra who built a fort at this place in 1st century AD which was later rebuilt by his son King Vashishtiputra Satakarni I during 2nd century AD with bricks from nearby Ananthagiri Hills on banks o River Pennar to protect it against enemies attacks . The ruins are still visible today near village Kondapuram on NH-44 between Guntakallu & Bhattiprolu villages in Panyam mandalam (taluk).
