The emergence of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the 1990s led to the city being referred to as India's "Genome Valley". With an output of US$74 billion, Hyderabad is the fifth-largest contributor to India's overall gross domestic product. The city hosts offices of many Indian companies and its economy has been improving steadily over recent years. A survey conducted by international agency JLL ranked Hyderabad as one among ten top global cities on business friendliness, along with Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore; while it was among one hundred cities worldwide for infrastructure development. In 2017, a survey conducted by EY ranked Hyderabad second most preferred outsourcing destination after Mumbai for IT services in India due to high quality talent pool available at lower cost compared with other major technology hubs such as Bengaluru or Pune .
