Kadapa has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 55%. In Kadapa, 11% of the population is under 6 years old. Kadapa city consists mainly two regions: Old Town (Bazaar) region which includes Raja Street (Raja Bazar), Kothapet Street(Kothapeta), New Bus Stand Road(New Busstand Road)and Subhash Nagar; The other region being called as "Gandhi Nagar" or "Mandal Region". The Gandhinagar region includes Gandhi nagar colony area which was developed by late Sri Peddireddy Narayana Reddy garu in early 1960s for residential purposes to accommodate employees working at his factory located near to it on NH-16 highway towards Nandyal.(Peddireddypally). This colony houses many government offices like RDO Office etc.
