Reykjavík is a popular tourist destination and the city's economy mainly relies on tourism, which generates more than €2 billion (US$2.4 billion) annually, accounting for nearly 39% of Iceland's total GDP and making it one of the country's most important economic sectors. The city is consistently ranked among the top-ten travel destinations in the world by Lonely Planet; in 2017, it was ranked eighth globally. It has also been named as "the most peaceful place" in Europe by Forbes magazine due to its lack of violent crime. Another nickname for Reykjavík is "the City of Music", as musicians are drawn to its easy access to recording studios and concert venues per capita – significantly higher than that found anywhere else on Earth according to UNESCO music experts' statistics – with around 90% percent or more being related with music production at some point after their arrival into Iceland from abroad .
