About Discovery Bay

In the United Kingdom, Royal Mail has a system of postal codes which is part of the postcode system. The first letter identifies a geographical area and the second one indicates if it is an urban or rural delivery point. For example, "B" denotes Birmingham and "S" denotes Sutton in London (which are both towns), while B98 would be for Birmingham Rural North (a village) and S1D would be for Sutton Coldfield Town Delivery Point (a town). There are also some special codes: The Royal Mail's website provides an online lookup facility to find out what code should be used where. Postcodes were introduced in Great Britain on 15 August 1959 by the General Post Office; they were not required until 1965 when there was a change from six-digit to seven-digit numbers with no space between them as shown above. In Scotland, these 7 digit numbers have been issued since 1974–75 using OCR technology rather than hand stamping although preprinted labels had been available from 1966 onwards so that sorting offices could use machines before then.
