About Athens

Athens, Georgia is the county seat of Clarke County, and the largest city in Northeast Georgia. The population was 94,256 at the 2010 census. Athens is located near the center of a larger metropolitan area called "The Classic City" with a population of 200,000 people (and an estimated 300K within 30 minutes drive). It is home to University of Georgia (UGA), as well as numerous educational institutions and corporations; it also contains several historic neighborhoods that feature homes dating from before World War II up to modern times. In addition to its public schools system which consistently ranks among America's best for high school education according to Business Week magazine's annual survey; Athens-Clarke County has been ranked by Forbes magazine as one of America's top 25 small cities with populations under 100k based on economic health factors such as per capita income growth rate over 10 years and unemployment rates during same period along with other socioeconomic measures including median household income adjusted for cost living index etc..
