The Munich Residenz is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the House of Wittelsbach in central Munich, Germany. The Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany and is today open to visitors for its architecture, room decorations, and displays from two centuries of Bavarian history. A museum since 1950, it also houses temporary exhibitions and maintains a collection of historical objects significant for their cultural value as well as their connection with major historical figures. It has been one of Munich's most popular tourist attractions since 1900 (around 1 million visitors every year). In 2013 alone there were more than 700 000 visitors (1.4 million including those who visited only Schloss Nymphenburg), bringing an income to both parts totalling €28m Euro .
