The commune is located on the Belgian border, near to the towns of Comines-Warneton and Wervik. The town is crossed by a canalized section of river Lys which connects it with Lille. Sainghin-en-Weppes has a railway station on this line (the French side) as well as an industrial park called "Parc d'Activité de la Haute Deûle". Inhabitants are called Sainchois and Sainchoises.
